Job Title: Teradata/Oracle DBA
Length: 6-10 months
Location: While this role is primarily remote, the client prefers candidates near satellite offices. Candidates may be called into their local office for ID Verification at any time during the project. Candidates must attend an in-person interview or pick up their laptop at one of the client's offices: San Francisco, Arlington, VA, Denver, CO, Chicago, Boston, NYC, Houston, Miami, Los Angeles, Seattle, Dallas, Minneapolis, Minn, Atlanta, GA, Birmingham, MI or Irvine, CA
Responsibilities:
• Install, configure, patch, and upgrade Teradata, Oracle Exadata, and Oracle RAC across DEV/QA/UAT/PROD.
• Administer and optimize large-scale data warehouse schemas (3NF, star/snowflake) for BI and analytics workloads.
• Tune SQL and system performance using EXPLAIN plans, AWR/ASH, DBQL, stats strategy, indexing, and partitioning.
• Manage Teradata workload governance (TASM/Viewpoint), spool/perm/temp, AMP skew, locking, and concurrency.
• Manage Oracle RAC services, Clusterware, ASM, instance balancing, and high-availability failover operations.
• Operate Exadata-specific features: Smart Scan, Storage Indexes, HCC, IORM, and cell/server performance tuning.
• Build and maintain robust ETL/load frameworks (TPT/FastLoad/TPump, SQL*Loader, external tables) with strict load-window SLAs.
• Own backup, recovery, and DR strategy (RTO/RPO), including restore drills, failover testing, and runbook validation.
• Implement security controls: RBAC, profiles, encryption, LDAP/SSO integration, audit policies, and least-privilege access.
• Automate DBA tasks (health checks, stats jobs, user provisioning, housekeeping) via Shell/Python/SQL scripting.
• Support release/change management with pre/post deployment validation, rollback plans, and zero/low outage execution.
• Provide L2/L3 production support, incident RCA, trend reporting, and preventive action planning.
• Create operational documentation (SOPs, architecture, recovery guides) and train junior DBAs/engineers.
• Partner with ETL, BI, infra, and security teams to resolve integration/performance issues and maintain SLA compliance.
Required Skills:
• Strong Teradata DBA experience (Vantage, utilities, workload/performance tuning).
• Strong Oracle DBA experience with Exadata and Oracle RAC administration.
• Expertise in SQL tuning, indexing/partitioning, stats management, and large-volume DW optimization.
• Hands-on backup/recovery, HA/DR architecture, and enterprise compliance support.
• Scripting/automation proficiency (Shell, Python, SQL).
• Strong Linux/Unix platform administration exposure.
